Ambergris Caye as an Investment Choice?
We are often asked what we think of Belize as an investment choice, and specifically how Ambergris Caye compares to some of the other areas that Belize has to offer. The short answer is that we believe purchasing real estate on Ambergris Caye can be an excellent investment decision, assuming you apply common sense and aren’t looking to flip properties or do some other sort of short-term speculative plan. The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has recently released figures on Overnight Tourist Visits to Belize, from 2007 through June 2016 and the year-over-year increases are very impressive, especially in the last few years. According to the BTB, “For the first time in history, overnight arrivals exceeded 30,000 guests in the month of June (2016.) In fact, overnight arrivals in June 2016 were 34,268 people, which represents an increase of 17.4% over June 2015. Furthermore, from January to June 2016, there has been an overall increase of 16.5% arrivals over the same time period last year.” Additional data indicates that Ambergris Caye comprises the largest overnight destination by far; approximately 45% of the total, and has for many years. By comparison, Caye Caulker averages around 25% of the total and Placencia only 15%. We also notice that the visitors to Ambergris Caye show much more stable trends than do those to other destinations, whose history appears more volatile. See charts below for more information, and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. In short, given the steady increase in tourism, the stability of Ambergris Caye as the leading destination in Belize, the investment by the Government in Belize on Ambergris Caye (paved road north, new soccer stadium, etc.) and the investment by major airlines offering new routes into Belize (Southwest, Copa, WestJet), we believe that an investment in real estate on Ambergris Caye is an excellent choice for many people.

Did You Know? | Featured Listing: Condo
· WestJet has just announced that they will begin offering direct flights from Toronto to Belize City, effective October 26, 2016. That’s great news for our Canadian friends, as you’ll no longer need to clear U.S. Customs before arriving in Belize. And prices aren’t bad, either – we saw one-way fares in November for as low as $221 CAD.
· Southwest Airlines is also increasing its direct flights to Belize City. You can currently catch a direct flight from Houston Hobby airport, but beginning in March 2017, they will add direct flights from Denver. · Busy season will soon be upon us, and if you are planning a trip down from U.S. Thanksgiving or later, we recommend you make your flight, cart, hotel and even restaurant reservations very soon. They fill up quite quickly and it can be quite difficult to find last-minute availability. And don’t forget that we can help you get discounts on Tropic Air flights and golf cart rentals, so feel free to contact us. |
